Daniel Xue Kaiyuan is a Chinese-Canadian
filmmaker born in Shanghai, and often moving between different cities. In 2023, He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Film/Animation/Video. He
picked up a camera in elementary school and never stopped, collecting all sorts
of gear and lenses along the way. His work concerns subtle interpersonal
relationships, often inspired by real life. Additionally, he enjoys being a
history, linguistics, physics, and economics nerd. In his spare time he likes
cooking and going to karaoke with friends.
Work
I’ve always had a strong affiny for the camera, and for many years I’ve cultivated my photography and filmmaking skills. Whether it’s a 4x5 field camera, a 35mm rangefinder, a 16mm Bolex, a modern DSLR/mirrorless, or a built-up cinema camera, I’ve had experience with them. Even if it’s a camera I haven’t used before, I can quickly learn and apply my knowledge.
